Agreed, having others in the car does make a difference.

While I agree with you completely about nanny state laws, your logic about not wearing seatbelts doesn't completely hold up. If you're in an accident and not wearing a seatbelt, you can severely injure or even kill the other passengers in the car when your unbelted body goes flying around the cab at high speeds.
That said, I still agree with you that it should be your choice, not the government's, but you should at least know that your decision not to wear a seatbelt does place more lives at risk than your own, and factor that knowledge into your decision.

If only in terms of the risk they're willing to accept to be in a vehicle with you; even if it weren't the law, if someone insisted I wear a seatbelt in their car, or when they rode in mine, I'd respect that. Where it would get sticky for me would be with parents and kids, whether it's an issue of parental rights or child endangerment, and I'm not sure where I'd fall on that one, but lean toward "you don't have the right to let your kid play on the freeway". If only because there were less school shootings when parents were held responsible for their kids instead of just filing lawsuits on their behalf.

OK, I can't type; time for bed....

How so? He wasn't demanding the right to survive crashes when only a helmet makes that possible.
