So do not smoking, eating right and regular exercise, but we haven't made them mandatory. Joel Send a noteboard - 09/07/2011 11:04:58 AM
Not wearing one merely to assert your authority over your own person is peurile. Arguing the same point just for the hell of it is possibly much the same thing.

I've seen a man on a BSA get mown down by a Kenworth B-Double. His head popped like a watermelon and I thank him during every flashback for thumbing his nose at the establishment and eschewing a mandatory helmet. What a man! CIVIL RIGHTS FTW! I'm sure the three children waiting at the same intersection as myself have forgotten as well I have what the smell of civil freedom is like.
Of course, a helmet wouldn't have saved him but it would have kept his eyeballs from being spread across the road like peanut butter. The only reason he wasn't wearing a helmet? The same reason he apparently never wore a seat belt and sped through city streets at twice the posted limit. Because that's what tough, free people do.

Way to go to be a role model.

Children standing nearby witness grisly vehicular accidents all the time; should we ban vehicles because their trauma is unacceptable? Ever hit an animal you couldn't avoid while driving? Should we get rid of cars because someone might have seen it and be unable to get the image out of their head?

Going twice the speed limit was an imminent risk to the safety of others. So is driving drunk, a similar apple that's been compared to this threads orange, but comparing legitimate public safety laws to personal safety laws isn't valid or fair. I doubt seriously either the man you mentioned or the one in the orginal post sought to be anyones role model, and that's not a crime, or shouldn't be.
