Obviously the two situations are far from analagous, but it seems that Iran is trying to say that Britain is the hypocrit. When Iran is faced with social unrest, typically it's the western countries calling for restraint, etc. So Iran is trying to say that this is a case of "do as I say, not as I do." Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, etc.

But whatever Iran might think, the situations don't exactly match up.

though I did wonder if there was a degree of them knowing perfectly well it doesn't match up and playing for the gallery while mocking.
