My point is that people in the UK don't have guns, and so they don't kill as often (regardless of death penalty), but that you don't have proper enforcement of your laws generally and so your overall crime rate is far higher. You lead the world in burglaries (total number).

Furthermore, for an accurate death penalty study to be performed, the US needs to see a faster resolution and limited appeals process so that there is a direct connection - for example, Offender A is arrested on January 1, arraigned January 5, trial set for February 15, judgment passed March 15, appeal denied on April 30, execution scheduled May 31 and implemented. This would require giving death penalty offenses docket priority, but it would also cause the execution to take place when the crime was still fresh in peoples' minds. As it is, when they say, "So-and-so was executed today for the brutal murder of an entire family in 1985", it doesn't resonate.
