Compartmentalizing the various aspects of your life and thinking is standard practice for all sane people, I've never seen a reason to apply it strictly to religion in some special form as opposed to things like common courtesy and etiquette, notions of justice and civil rights, or the various decision making processes people use when deciding whether or not to order dessert. All that matters is that those people I listed would generally be considered quite rational and intelligent and are from the LDS, whether or not they are totally rational on religion is, without seeing its effect on a case-by-case analysis, about as pertinent as whether or not someone likes to drive 5 miles over the speed limit all the time, seeing as virtually no one who does this will have taken the time to do a proper analysis of whether or not the various cost and safety trade offs make up for time saved and 'the thrill' of going faster. A gardener, such as myself, typically does not do analysis of the cost in time and resources compared to benefits or loss in direct purchase of produce or hiring a landscaper, nor check the actual stress relief per dollar and per hour involved compared to, say, watching a movie and conclude that my gardening may not be the optimal stress relief system for other people or even myself.



Then you're horribly detached from history, seeing as religion has typically played a major role in politics in this country.
