I had a friend who was a Navy chaplain attached to the Marine Corps.

He had some amazing stories. He went into combat zones with them, unarmed. A man in the squad took a bullet for him... and the guy was an atheist. Later told him that he didn't really care about religion, but that my friend cared enough for the men to go into battle unarmed made him worth that kind of sacrifice.
I have several friends who are chaplains, and I think I prefer the Navy/Marines route to the Army route.
