Ah, yes, good point. Joel Send a noteboard - 09/11/2011 01:24:03 PM
What surprised him was something that surprised me when I heard about it, and that I think most Americans do not know: Assuming you are in a state where right on red is legal, LEFT on red is legal onto a one way street (because no traffic can (legally) come from the left.)

There was an intersection near my house that had a "No Left Turn on Red" sign and I wondered a) why you'd need a sign to tell people that and b) why there weren't signs everywhere else then :D

There it was only legal from a one-way street onto another one-way street though (unless otherwise posted). Dunno if that's the standard or not.

Funny the things we take for granted but, though I have not checked, I am 95% certain making a left on red across oncoming traffic is illegal in TX, even onto a one way street. Most places I have been in the US it only comes up downtown, where one way streets in alternating directions are common, so, except on main thoroughfares, people will generally be turning from one way streets to other one way streets. Next time I am in Austin maybe I will try a left on red from Guadalupe or Congress onto a one way street and see. :P

I've never seen them in Belgium - nor in France outside highway parkings, to be fair. - 09/11/2011 08:05:09 PM 1271 Views
OK now you are being redundant *NM* - 09/11/2011 11:47:52 PM 752 Views
