But yeah, hand-washing: Put soap on plate. Put water on plate. Scrub until clean. Wash excess soap off of plate. Put in drying rack.

Run water till very hot. Put plug in sink. Fill sink with glasses & mugs (first phase). Add washing-up liquid to sink (e.g. 1-2 teaspoons of it). Fill sink with water. Wash dishes. Take out of mildly soapy water and put in rack to drain/dry.

So the liquid doesn't go directly onto the plate because that's a crazy waste. Obviously if we did that we'd rinse it off afterwards. ;)
