To invoke the language of warfare with the term "enemy combatant", and to implicitly threaten violence with violence. Take a cue from Gandhi and don't escalate the situation. Let the violence stay one-sided, and that will do far more good than inciting warfare.
The outpouring of sympathy from people all over toward peaceful protesters has risen in response to seeing that dumbass cop pepper spray that group in CA that was just sitting there and not doing anything. On the other hand, the dumbass in NY who threw the battery at the cop and then grabbed at him and, in response, got his ass whupped has did nothing but tarnish the image of the "Occupy" movement even further.
Even though I don't like the "Occupy" movement I can respect the students who were pepper sprayed and call out the cop's actions as absurd and abusive. In the NY case, that guy deserved to get his ass whipped.
But wine was the great assassin of both tradition and propriety...
