Re: So do you think there is no cause whatsoever for protest?
Dan Send a noteboard - 22/11/2011 06:47:25 AM
There's always been problems, as with any imperfect political system, but there have been different problems at different times. The most recent problem resulted in the housing crisis which led to the recession, which, as I understand, was caused by the government and wall street undermining regulatory laws, or in the former case, just undoing pre-existing ones. That hasn't always been around forever, nor has the level of misconduct resulted in a recession of anything close to this magnitude.
As far as protests, I think they are worthy and can serve a purpose. Protest has been shown to be effective before. If OWS had been full of reasonable and fairly seemly people articulating clear goals respectfully and intelligently, it would have been considerably more effective. I know what you mean about your distaste in protest in general, though- the sheer fact that professional protesters exist makes me wary of the motives behind any protest. A lot of times it's just whining.
I'm not Roon, but I have a question about your question. I feel like you are implying it is only now a problem. Why wasn't it before? This isn't new. This has been going on for decades. Further, why would any protest actually work? When I hear protest, whether I agree with a cause or not, I personally immediately hate it. I feel as though it is the most annoying, unimaginative and lazy course of action to get what you want. It doesn't make me sympathize with the cause. I lose respect for said cause.

I'm talking about apart from how the actual Occupy Wall Street protests turned out, which is not good, do you think there was absolutely nothing objectionable going on in our current system of Government and Finance that merited a protest? Work may not be a right, but certainly we have a right not to be misled and robbed by corporations taking advantage of Government laxity.
