The idea that referencing something is equivalent to endorsing it. You don't actually believe that as a general principle, right? A library doesn't endorse everything in all of its books. A historian doesn't endorse all of the things he writes about.

And I'm not saying that Joel is like a library or a historian, but if it's not a general absolute principle, then it's not necessarily true that Joel endorses this particular article. I wouldn't be surprised if in some measure he did, but I'd have to hear an actual opinion on it from him before I could say.
