Replacing it with another, secular, holiday seems the responsible thing to do.

We like our days off. But in all seriousness, nobody thinks very much of the religious aspects of most holidays.
(right, pentecost monday has actually been replaced as a holiday by some silly national day lately, but whatever)

Well, but it is a non-trivial matter: A purely secular state should not promote any religion, which granting its "holy days" federal sanction undeniably does. That is doubly true for secular states that DO "enshrine" religious equality in federal law. If many holidays of one religion receive federal recognition but all holidays of all others are ignored, that is not very equal, is it? It is government tacitly but firmly endorsing one religion over all others.
In light of the conversation I just had with one your countrymen, about difficulties with Malmös immigrant Muslim enclaves (he brought it up, not I,) I think "non-trivial" a mild description of the issue.

Nothing, they are federal holidays still because of strong unions, not religion

Again, some people manifestly care; just not enough to relinquish a paid holiday.

If people did not care, disestablishmentarianism (and its antithesis) would not exist.

Thanksgiving was a purely federal institution. FDR dictated the date it's celebrated

That distinction would be an almost wholly Roman Catholic (or possibly Greek Orthodox) one.

Because I counted Thankgiving, and holidays for federal employees rather than just statutory ones.
