Main benefit is the decentralization would disarm most (granted, not all) tendencies toward authoritarian/autocratic policies that would privilege some members of the group at the expense of others. This is an ideal state, however; humans aren't quite ideal, so it's more something that I prefer than something I expect to see occur in my lifetime.

Other ancillary benefits would be greater worker involvement in the decision-making and the lack of over-production/under-production problems that state/planned economies frequently encountered.
