Making them legal would greatly increase their rate of occurrance. Legalizing abortion has the effect of increasing the number of abortions by orders of magnitude.


There are numbers provided on both sides, but the truth is that there are countries where abortion is legal, and in some cases subsidized, that have lower rates of abortion than we do. And countries where abortion is downright illegal who have higher rates of abortion than we do. The key is that the program any given country pushes for its people has to reflect the actual wants/needs and likely actions of those people. Americans are not going to stop having sex, so programs, parents, etc who ignore that are exacerbating the issue. Those that don't, aren't. (referring primarily to education and easily obtained information and birth control)
