Intentional abortion to save the life of the mother is performed in about 0.004% of all abortions (151 instances between 1967 & 1990).
Death of the mother during an abortion procedure occurs in approximaely 0.3% of all abortions.
In other words, dying because you had an abortion performed on you is about 1,000 times more likely than dying because one was NOT performed.
Regardless, both occurances are HIGHLY unlikely and should not be the basis for any discussion beyond "Damn, what a shame that happened to her."

Statistically speaking, the difference between 0.004 and 0.3 is 75 times, not 1000 times.
I too would like to see the source of your statistics. According to this article on FactCheck.org — http://www.factcheck.org/2012/10/the-life-of-the-mother/ — 600 women die of pregnancy-related complications every year in the United States. That may still be a small percentage, but it doesn't sound so small when you put it in hard numbers instead of relative numbers. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists stated in that article that more than that would die without access to abortions.
The item I linked also references a study that stated 50 of the 1773 women polled who had an abortion in 1987-88 alone did so because of risk to their medical health. Now, that's self-reporting, and so may differ from reality, but 50 in one year is a lot different from 150 over 23 years, as you cite. I imagine the reality is somewhere in between, but either way, it certainly is worth discussion. It's easy for you to say that exceptions don't matter when you're not one of the exceptions.
