View original postIt is still too cold to put seeds in the ground where I am, but I have planning my garden since January.

View original postFrost date is early May round here, but I've got a cold frame greenhouse out back and a number of raised beds I've translucent tarps and pipes I can toss over to get them warmer sooner and lets me keep things going longer. Starting seeds in the house is always a bit tricky though, window ledges are prime real estate to my cats and they also tend to gnaw or dig on plants and soil in the house.

View original posthave you tried one of those wire kitchen/baker racks? i use a 5-shelf one for my house plants and the cats mostly ignore the ones they can't reach

I do have a fair number of such racks, they're rather full so the cats don't sit there, but I hadn't really considered that they probably wouldn't even if it were empty, not very cozy roosts. On the other hand one of my cats has recently taken to sleeping in the little basket i keep my clothespin in even though she spill out of it like an over-sized muffin and its got lot of clothespins in it, not exactly ideal bedding. Still, worth a try, thanks
