Do what jh says with the sweet potatoes sliced very thin or cut like match sticks. Butter, sweet onion, and honey.
My favorite way to cook Brussels sprouts: sliced lengthwise. Sautée in olive oil or butter, scallion or minced onion, garlic, and a few bacon (or ham- but bacon is better) crumbles. Asparagus is good in the oven on a cookie sheet. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with salt pepper and garlic.
