Not that I disagree with a single point you made, but wasn't the 40 acres & a mule thing a myth

View original post Clearly, ex-slaves were supposed to get 40 acres and a mule for each household ("And a mule? Gee..." as the ex-slaves in Gone with the Wind put it), but that policy was reversed and the land went back to its original owners. The proper way to set reparations would therefore be to calculate the median value of 40 acres and a mule and assign that value to each ex-slave household.
IIRC, that was nothing more than a campaign promise or a proposal, not any sort of actual policy or legitimate commitment on behalf of the government.
4. It would be a disaster. Chappelle's comedy sketch may be a bit extreme, but giving money to people in poverty with little experience managing money is almost a cruel thing to do. It would create cottage industries of scammers and con artists in inner-city areas. In this hypothetical, again, the people who need the money the least would benefit the most.
This, in particular. That's pretty much the de facto state of affairs anyway, with Jackson, Sharpton and their ilk stirring up racial friction primarily in order to maintain their status as the spokesmen for all blacks, and thus their own power and influence. No spokesman for any other special interest group would have the presidential nominees of a major party kissing his ring after being caught buying drugs on tape, or their involvement in such criminal behavior as the Tawana Brawley scam or the anti-semetic riots that killed Yankel Rosenbaum. With scum like this manipulating racial tensions to accrue status and financial gain, I find it almost impossible to believe they would not interpose themselves in the distribution process, much less walk away with a disproportionate chunk of the proceeds.

Maybe because there is a lack of connection between the history involved and present day problems.

I agree that reparations would be extremely difficult if not impossible to implement fairly.

Even without David Chappelle's compelling arguments against, I think it's a crazy idea.
