Sorry but I see a man who wants to be heard not a man who is interested in listening. He wants to blame everything wrong with African American society on whitey and yes he does want a hand out. He dismisses well documented and well understood issues like absent fathers out of hand with shallow antidotal evidence. He does document the terrible ways blacks were treated in this county which is true. Lots of groups were treated badly but blacks had worse than most but that in and of itself is not an argument for restitution. If he truly wanted have an open an honest discussion he also would avoid dismissing other’s problems the way he does with white poverty. I come from white family that was dirt poor and I can actually match most of the stories he told because the poor and powerless were exploited regardless of their skin color. Poverty is a killer and the damage takes generations to heal. I know I can see its effects throughout my extended family. I am sorry but I can’t start an open and honest discussion with the premise that poverty in my own family is somehow different and less worthy of being addressed.
The weakest party of his argument is that at its core his argument is not only hollow but false. We have been addressing and discussing race issues in this country for two generations now. That is why for the last two generations we have been telling white students they can’t go to the state funded university they choose and instead a less qualified black student will get their seat. That is why we have in been telling white business men that if they can’t have certain government contracts that have because they have been reserved for people of a different race. White guilt is why let Martin Zimmerman but called a racist for shooting a man who was assaulting him and that is why black can make outrageous racist comments with no fear a of repressions and white men can be forced to sell their companies over illegally recorded private conversations.
If his housing argument was valid we should have seen significant improvement when those policies were changed but we haven’t. As he mentioned blacks have less wealth even when they make similar salaries so he needs to start his open an honest discussion by addressing that failing in the black community. Whatever the cause his solution will only makes things by promoting the victim mentality that you are not responsible your own problems and it is up to someone else to solve them for you.
