I fully grasp the distinction between the Russian people and Soviet govt—and which the KGB served Joel Send a noteboard - 27/02/2017 09:31:14 PM

Also, you are offensive beyond all belief when you stereotype Soviets and Republicans the way you do. They were people just like you and me. There were horrible people in the Soviet Union as there were here in the US. As there were everywhere. And then there were good people there as there were here. As there were everywhere.

Hint: NOT the one it sends to gulags and/or murders in the streets. If you truly feel calling the Okhranka/KGB "GRU" changes its purpose and means in ANY way, fine; calling it a Grue is more apt anyway: A monster lurking in the dark to savagely slaughter the defenseless. Yet changing the letterhead in no way changes the institution.

No one is condemning all 150 million Russians as brutal butchers: Only the people ACTUALLY butchering them as much as anyone else.

View original postAlso, whatever role the Russian hacking has played, what hurt the Democrats more than anything else from that particular event was what was in the DNC emails. The fact that people like you continue to focus on the action of the Russian hacking without focusing on the content of the hacking shows why your "side" lost.

Are Darrell Issa (R-CA) and George W Bush (R-CT) on my "side"? Because their trailing letters clearly indicate they are on YOURS, yet one is calling for a special prosecutor because no elected official can be trusted to self-investigate, while the other simply says he is not a lawyer but the pertinent and pointed questions about the GOP president selling out his nation to the KGB MUST be answered by whatever protocol is appropriate. Which, once again, is not having the AG he appointed "investigate;" that was not good enough when Nixon covered up Americans trying to rig an election, so CERTAINLY not good enough when Trump has spies for a hostile foreign power rig an election.

I could not care less about what DNC officials privately said to each other about someone pursuing their presidential nomination despite not even being a MEMBER—EVER. Russia hacking non-partisan state VOTING REGISTRIES in TWENTY STATES is a much bigger deal, because that does not inherently favor either Republicans or Democrats: It only aids RUSSIA, to the detriment of Americas democratic system, and thus America itself.

View original postLastly, learn some Russian. Given that you're in a country that shares a border with Russia, it would probably be useful to you. Especially since you think you're living in a year before 1992.

До свидания,Товарищ.

Big deal; W declared Gulf War II "accomplished" in 2003: So why must we keep RIGHT ON FIGHTING IT FOURTEEN MORE YEARS (so far...)?

Replacing Russias bloody autocracy is neither as easy nor simple as simply bidding the current leader farewell: Ask Lenin, Khrushchev or YELTSIN. Bidding Gorbachev in particular farewell does not even qualify as an attempt, since perestroika and glasnost reforms were moves towards liberalization, just as Alexander II and Khrushchevs previous efforts—and about as successful. Remember, Gorbachev was not overthrown by some noble democracy movement: The same party hardliners who opposed Khrushchevs de-Stalinization by quietly removing him with a coup tried the same with Gorbachev for the same reason, only failing because, after years of being a party pariah because he dared tell Gorbachev to his face that the reforms did not go far ENOUGH, Yeltsin seized the chance by rushing to the seat of government, mounting a tank and convincing the army to defect en masse. THAT was what saved the Russian PEOPLE from the Soviet GOVERNMENT—for about five years.

Then the KGB installed one of its former East German station chiefs, a man who said he WEPT WHEN THE BERLIN WALL FELL, he tore up Yeltins reforms as completely as Alexander III tore up his fathers and has ruled with a Cheka fist for 20 years (so far....) Maybe now that it is no longer branded "Marxism" it sates your socio-economic fetish, but:

If nothing has CHANGED, then NOTHING has changed. Right down to the part down to the part about trying to cripple or outright destroy US and European governments in an effort to rebuild the Berlin Wall.

For the record, I am back in the US, but we still BOTH share a border with Russia: The difference is only ONE of us wants to keep it that way.
