on August 9, 2009 I told him that I thought it would be a good idea if he transferred out of our team and went to research and documents for the time being. He had been late a few times as his wife was having complications with this pregnancy. Tardiness I can handle and cover for. But his work had been slipping. I noticed. Our boss noticed. The owner noticed. I thought he had it worked out after the birth and the baby and mother were hale and healthy. Now with an infant at home (I understand his situation can not be easy) I give him one last warning as per my directives from my boss. That was two weeks ago. I find a personal note from my boss on my desk this morning to call A.S.A.P. I knew it would not be good. I got my instructions. I asked if we could transfer him or put him on unpaid leave for punishment. Not an option.
Have you ever had to fire someone?

Where I work you have to use your sick leave and annual leave to cover maternity leave.

Did he try to transfer? Or did he procrastinate or blow off your suggestion?
