The BNP have no actual policies on immigration, allowing a debate between the major parties in the presence of Nick Griffin would have allowed him to ride the back of conservative criticsm of Labour policy and witter out his horrible catch phrases.

I'd say horrible catchphrases and riding the back of opponents attacking each other are pretty much a staple of political debates, though.
This was the first time a racist party has been on question time so naturally all the questions are on race. He was brutally exposed on his stance for people who might have seen him as a protest vote, which is what needed to happen.

Oh really? What you saw was a full hour of "the establishment vs. Nick Griffin". A full hour of making clear that voting BNP is one big protest signal that won't go unheard. Making the other parties look all alike, despite Baroness Warsi's efforts to distance herself from Labour (and Huhne's somewhat bizarre attempt to pretend the Lib Dems are harsher on immigration than Labour is).

Whether one's primary desire for the show tonight was to have an interesting debate on immigration issues, or a way of minimizing BNP votes, I think it failed big time. On both counts. I wanted the former, you the latter, but if you think you got it, think again.
