I think that was the reasonable expectation, that it would put a nice size dent in the BNP's attempt to seem a reasonable party and it did it.
Were people have said they were always against the BNP and Nick Griffon, but some of the things he said made them think.

The establishment are all patting themselves on the back saying job well done, but maybe David Aaronovitch (Times columnist)has actually realised something others have not:

The danger tonight was that the British people, famous for their fair-mindedness, saw one man being beaten up by five other people on the panel, including the presenter, and by an audience that was overwhelmingly hostile to him. Yes, I have seen that take on it, i think it was either in the Guardian or the Independent. I'm not that sold on it though, partly as I tend to think it is columns like that which are actually doing the job of making people think that, telling them they what they should think about it. The subtext is "if you aspire to be a fair minded British person, then you should be disgusted to see a nasty little bigot verbally attacked for his believes, having chosen to put himself in that position"
And in the meantime this has allowed NIck to make a complaint to the BBC which will hog the headlines for days to come. He said he expected to be thrown to the bear pit, and he was, and you can bet this is all part of his post-QT plan.
Trouble is, he was always going to do that regardless. This is far from his first complaint about the BBC and he'd have made one regardless of what happened.
Meanwhile the so called anti-facist protestors are shown up for the mindless thugs they are once again, and just as bad if not worse just now than those they claim to be against. And teh police take another battering in a situation they can do nothing about.
To be fair, unlike BNP members, I'm not aware of any of them having been found to have bomb making equipment. Clearly a minority were out of control and hopefully they will be dealt with by the legal system.
I'm not going to get into your last sentence there... that whole paragraph just sounds like grudge nursing
This whole thing now stinks. It's been an opportunity lost...for everyone but the BNP. And that is sad. 
I think you were unrealistic, in my opinion. Question Time was never a format where the BNP could be called out properly, I really do think this was the best it was going to end up in out of this. The only way there could have been a better result would have been a proper one on one interview and I can't imagine Griffin would be stupid enough to agree to that, he'd know he had too much to lose.
