great specs but you still have to buy the office software

My needs are pretty simple and I don't want to pay more than I need to.
What I want is a desktop with cd/dvd anti-virus and all the usual geegaws. Microsoft word, Adobe Reader, intel...the usual and a nice new monitor
Best Buy has a Gateway for $549 plus $170 for the monitor.
I have a Gateway now and have been happy with it so I want to stay with Gateway.
So does this sound like a good deal or would I be paying to much by getting more than I really need?

in other words, it doesn't come with word, you have to buy it separately. in fact, you would be searching quite awhile to find a computer that does come with it installed, and you will end up paying extra for it anyway. just something to consider when you're looking around.
also, if you have a store you can actually visit, they will sometimes have specials which include the monitor in the price that you won't get from the online store.

I'm thinking of getting a new computer and would like some advice.

That sounds like it would suit your needs. I think Gateway can die in a fire, though.

They don't have *all* the functionality MS Office has, but it depends on what you need exactly.

If you need more than what's there, you'd probably need a better program anyway.
