That's pretty much what I do with my computer at home, as I try to avoid having a lot of stuff.
Have you thought about just buying a flat screen TV instead and hooking that up to your computer? $170 would go a long way there. Just make sure you have a TV tuner card installed. Then, hook up your cable to the back of your computer (if you order cable), and hook up the TV to your comp.
With the computers today, you shouldn't have any problems watching 1080i quality with basic hardware.
Are you sure it's Word and not "Works" (which is going to be discontinued in the near future)? The calculator is standard feature of Windows.

I have a nice set of speakers that were bought separately. A couple of tweeters and a woofer that is almost as big as my tower.
I want to download music and movies and other stuff.

Something I'm not understanding is that the above posts suggest that Microsoft Word is part of Microsoft Office but when I got my current comp Word came with it and if I wanted Office I had to down load that separately. Also the calculator is a nice convenience when I'm figuring out my budget.

You need a hdmi connection not a tv tuner to use your tv as a monitor
