Office is no longer bundled with the operating system

Due to the US Goverment considering Microsoft a monopoly and the long drawn out lawsuit, Microsoft changed some of its businesses practices to prevent a second go around. One of them was seperating different division software and doing less "bundling" (Bundling IE has gotten Microsoft in trouble in the US and Windows Media Player in Asia). Because of that Office does not come with the computer anymore.
You can though download a 60 day trial of MS Office 2007. And most OEMs such as HP and Acer (who owns Gateway) bundle the trial. Or you can use the beta of the 2010 version which will be coming out later this year.

As for antivirus get this

It is free, it is one of the best out there, and it doesn't use a lot of system resources.

That sounds like it would suit your needs. I think Gateway can die in a fire, though.

They don't have *all* the functionality MS Office has, but it depends on what you need exactly.

If you need more than what's there, you'd probably need a better program anyway.
