but...but...parents can't educate their children outside of school!!
LadyLorraine Send a noteboard - 03/03/2010 05:40:30 PM
I mean...that's just silly for a parent to discuss their beliefs and how they relate to what's being taught in class!!
I'm being sarcastic, btw, in case you didn't notice
I do agree, though, that it's not the purpose of a school to drive politics. But I've been in school a long time and have never had a teacher try to indoctrinate me into anything. Not that I haven't had teachers that share their opinion, but as far as I can remember, they all prefaced it with "in my opinion" or something to that gist. I think the one exception I can think of was my high school US history teacher, who was very loud and opinionated...but it was also quite clear that it was just her opinion and imo, we were all old enough to deal with it. Heck, some of students she showed the most favoritism too were the ones that argued with her the most. Anyway, not to say it doesn't happen, but I don't think it's near as much a "matter of course". Even when teaching things like evolution, our high school biology teacher said something to the extent of "This is just the science, I'm going to teach you the science and you can think about it whatever you want. Evolution as I'm going to teach it has nothing to do with creation or anything like it, so please at least listen to the science."
I'm being sarcastic, btw, in case you didn't notice
