Bullying is not something people should just be expected to accept. Bullying can go well beyond a shove or simple name calling. What we have now is very young children are put in situations where verbally and physically abused on a regular basis and little is done to protect them.

When my son was in middle school he was attacked several times by a group of older kids and the schools only solution was I should drive him school.

So I call bullshit on your bullshit. The motive for the two shooters at Columbine? They were tired of being bullied.

I never said bullying should be tolerated or is OK, I only meant that a parent using the avoidance of bullying as an excuse to homeschool is baloney. Bullies are unavoidable, this family's kids will encounter it at some point in their lives whether at school or not. I do not think bullying is OK at all or is ever acceptable.

Unlike those socially balanced kids we have coming out of public schools?

Yes. The vast majority of kids are schooled in private and public schools and the vast majority of those kids grow up to be fine adults. That is not to say there aren't major problems with the system or that it sometimes fails kids. It does sometimes fail the kids but the vast majority of students schooled outside the home turn out just fine.

Well Sherlock that forced curriculum doesn't include social teachings they may not agree with or sex education or evolution. With the exception of some of the social teachings I would want my kids to learn those things but there are other people who don’t and I think in the long run parents are the best people to decide how children should be raised, within reason of course.

Except that every public school I've ever heard of allows an exemption from sex-ed; the parent simply need pull their kid from the class. I'll give it that that process may have changed since I was a kid and if sex-ed has somehow now become mandatory then I stand corrected, but I don't think it is.
If the problem is evolution well then sorry but the entirety of the biological sciences stands on the foundation of evolutionary theory. I don't expect to have homeschooled kids have to understand the more complex aspects of the theory if studying basic biology but they do need to be exposed to it and understasnd the basics. If they choose to reject that theory after the fact then fine but it is an essential topic in biology at the minimum.

Homeschooled children have a much higher rate of attending college and make more money then public or private school children. In fact I have not seen any studies that show real negative consequences to home schooling.

I find it odd that so many people who have experienced American public school actually believe that they are places where you learn important social skills. Skills like how to be in right click and you can build yourself up if you help pick on the little guy? Yeah those are vital skills.

If any thing I would say our public schools are turning out dysfunctional individuals.

I did not say that home schooling had negative effects as far as education goes. I said that anecdotally home schooled kids seem socially awkward. I admitted that this was anecdotal on my part and as seen in this post there are plenty of homeschooled folks that have defied that. I am willing to accept that my perception is the result of anecdote rather than actual statistics.
I do disagree with your statement that public schools are turning out dysfunctional people. The problem of cliques is not that big a factor. The years that kids are in school are extremely important for learning how to socialize and interact with others including authorities as well as peers in their own social groups. Kids learn many different social skills in that theater as well as at home.
