Just remind yourself how good the government is with its other efforts

Oh my god, I'm a socialist! How could this happen! Someone talk me out of it, quickly!
Troubling development, but fear not, such forays into socialism are not unheard of. Forget for the moment how well it is or isn't working in other countries and think about how wonderful social security, medicare, medicaid, public education, welfare, etc have been handled by our gov't.
Remember how much of modern medicine relies on technological advancement, and consider where innovation tends to come from, and exactly how much incentive companies are going to have to do R&D when the price and profit for their efforts will probably be set by DC.
Hopefully that worked
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

The problem with "look how bad govt. programs are" is it ignores the "starve the beast" theory.
