Why is it so hard for you people to see that the AKP are the "good guys" in Turkey?

What sick logic is this that you and Legolas continually engage in? Why is Turkey continually excused for its atrocities?
And that Erdogan's government is responsible for significant progress on almost every touchy issue Turkey has, even if a lot of that was under EU pressure? They aren't the ones who are ultra-nationalist, or the ones who have the biggest issues with acknowledging the Armenian genocide. But the Turkish public is nationalistic enough, even the AKP voters, that these foreign resolutions infuriate them (something you'd think Americans would understand), and anything more than baby steps towards an acknowledgement of the genocide is political suicide. And not only that, but it would bring the tensions between the democratic system and the armed forces and secular establishment to a boiling point, and make it impossible to do things that are actually helpful for today's minorities in Turkey, like the AKP's big "initiative" last year (which failed spectacularly, but through no fault of their own; the government opposed that court decision of closing down the DTP).
So this "sick logic" is simple pragmatism: political grandstanding about the Armenian genocide does more practical harm than good, including to the interests of Armenia. If Armenia wants to try and get closer ties with Turkey, one aspect of which is historical investigation commissions about the genocide, I can't see it as a good thing that American Congressmen pushed by the Armenian lobby in the US go and torpedo that reconciliation process by acting like an elephant in a china store.
Turkey threatens to expel 100,000 Armenians

Your problem is that a "settlement freeze" doesn't impress anyone at all.
