But how can your properly hit a child? And can you hit it harder when it gets older since it might take more before it shows?

By properly I meant in the right way. Which I described. It's not an issue of strength of the smack either (btw: I object to you calling it hitting. It isn't hitting. Hitting involves a closed fist and the intention of causing pain. A smack isn't about causing pain. It's more about a slight shock.). It's supposed to give the child a little shock/surprise, which isn't pleasant.

So you plan to hit it? I find that very bad.

No, I plan to smack my children should they need it.

My son throws things at the dog, I have never hit him. I tell him no, he respects me enough to stop when I talk to him.

For now. Maybe you're one of those lucky parents who won't need to smack their child. I didn't get smacked very often when I was young, I didn't need it. It was, however, the only thing that worked for most of my siblings. Every child is different, and it's about finding what works for each child.

And how young is a very young child? When is the proper age to use violence? I can not understand this...
