Re: I'd say that's evil. Dark Knight Send a noteboard - 21/09/2011 06:23:11 PM
I'm talking more about somebody who acts according to their wishes, regardless of good or evil. Kind of like Slytherin house in Harry Potter. They're not cowards but they will generally look after themselves first. So, say for instance, that somebody is about to kill a baby. You could try to safe the baby but the odds are that it will cost you your life. A gaming system will give you evil points for choosing to walk away. So if you act to your own desires, it will led you to be somewhat balanced and you get no benefit for that. There should be abilities for benefit who do both "good" and "evil" deeds. That kind of guy is certainly not boring! Being unpredictable makes for an excellent narrative.

Doing good unless it is more beneficial for you not to is something I would consider evil, and doing anything you want regardless of its morality would likely be considered evil by most people.

Even if what you decided to do was good? Your good act is evil just because you did it for your own purposes?

So if I understand correctly, what you're asking is for different kinds of evil, because games generally focus on the more fantastical 'doing harm for its own sake' evil, and doesn't so much allow the 'evil under the guise of good' or your own 'simply selfish evil'.

Yeah something like this. Most games reward either strict good or strict evil. It's pointless to do both because you won't get any bonuses.

"Netural" isn't about picking "good and evil" choices. - 20/09/2011 04:59:42 PM 525 Views
It'd be pretty difficult to specifically reward you for being a 'gray' character. (Two games) - 20/09/2011 05:02:28 PM 638 Views
Take Knights of the Old Republic, for example - 20/09/2011 05:08:04 PM 573 Views
That's not so much an alignment as just metagaming the system. - 20/09/2011 09:27:49 PM 517 Views
thank you for phrasing that better than me *NM* - 20/09/2011 11:11:54 PM 242 Views
Maybe I didn't explain right - 20/09/2011 11:19:51 PM 477 Views
I'd say that's evil. - 21/09/2011 03:00:32 AM 639 Views
of course, then you get into question of whether actions like that example are evil - 21/09/2011 04:03:03 AM 528 Views

That's actually a pretty narrow view of Neutral when it comes to Alignment or Morality. - 21/09/2011 02:19:34 PM 509 Views
I thought I had allowed for what you said. - 21/09/2011 04:33:30 PM 451 Views
It's not a neutral outlook - 21/09/2011 06:27:27 PM 564 Views
See, what you're talking about IS in fact considered EVIL. - 21/09/2011 08:33:30 PM 511 Views

they don't reward it because, for the most part, they don't want you taking a middle ground. - 21/09/2011 07:10:48 PM 471 Views
Well that's just stupid. Tired of picking the 2 sides over and over *NM* - 21/09/2011 08:02:11 PM 264 Views
Neutrality is often boring or selfish. Good stories seldom have truly neutral protagonists. *NM* - 22/09/2011 06:27:05 PM 250 Views
Are you kidding? - 22/09/2011 06:54:19 PM 537 Views

I don't care if it's complicated so long as it's clear. - 22/09/2011 08:27:46 PM 485 Views
I agree with this, actually. *NM* - 22/09/2011 09:17:23 PM 259 Views
