As long as it's clear that they're not supposed to be able to beat those things yet, anyway.

I've definitely played games where I was stuck for an hour trying to get past something when, in fact, I wasn't supposed to be there at all. I agree that danger can be an important element, though. I think that's actually why I played so little of Cataclysm. The game is just flat out easy these days. It's virtually impossible to die. In Classic, I remember fleeing as fast as I could the very instant I heard the sound of an additional enemy noticing me. In Cataclysm, I died twice (not an estimate) from level 1 - 85. Both times were attempting to solo a world quest designed for 5 players (one of the Northrend giants). It was also the only 5-man quest (outside of instances) that I wasn't able to solo.

Sigh.

At least PC players get mods to fix the terrible decisions like level scaling and bad UI. Oh well.

Or they could just design a game that includes dangers you can't overcome.

My issue is mostly with equipment and enemy types scaling, not so much actual level.

NV didn't have scaling. Try walking down the road with Cazadores once you leave Goodsprings. - 27/10/2011 02:27:40 PM
