There's an xkcd for just this situation

I think I may have realized what my problem with BG2 is. It's the way the story is presented. I'm happy that the game does not hold my hand at all when it comes to the gameplay, but BG2 takes this same approach when it comes to the storyline, and seems to take it for granted that anyone playing it will have already played BG1 or is at the very least familiar with Dungeons and Dragons lore and mechanics. But I'm not, not even in the slightest. And being thrust into a world in medias res is something I enjoy in books and video games, but only if some explanations are later provided so I can puzzle pieces together. Here Harpers are casually mentioned, Bhaal, other gods, various factions, etc, and all without any explanation anywhere.
I'll have to check out Neverwinter Nights, and maybe a few of those other games too. I seem to not have too much trouble jumping from generation to generation of video games, considering I was playing Dragon Age: Origins again a little while ago before getting bored of it and deciding to give its spiritual predecessor a try.

Giving old games a try years after their initial release?

Psychonauts was worth it. The art direction helped it to age pretty gracefully, too. *NM*

Yes, sorry. I meant Final Fantasy 1

Yeah, FF1 was pretty annoying.

Who do you have in your party? As FT says, Jaheira can resurrect, and fairly early on too.

Since my computer is about six years out of date, I do nothing else, basically.

There's an xkcd for most situations geeks are likely to encounter in their lives, honestly.

Very true, and no doubt the main reason for its appeal

I suck at playing evil, too, but you can have Viconia in a neutral party.

That's another case of the original game becoming almost unplayable after the expansion.

I tried that recently. Spent more time creating my character than I did playing before quitting. *NM*

Or it's not his type of game. *shrug* I found Morrowind to be unbearably tedious. *NM*
