Most Europeans have a positive image of the US. Back up your statements with facts please. The Shrike Send a noteboard - 02/06/2017 07:15:23 PM

We see article after article in the US with wringing hands over how Europe thinks about us. As you pointed out Europeans in general have a negative attitude about Americans and think we are all ignorant and insulting even though all most of really know is what they see TV and what they saw during their week in Orlando. So I am saying America needs to ignore the idiots who do the hand wringing and tell Europe to go collectively fuck it self because we should value their opinion at the exact same level they value ours. One of the advantages of being a super power is the other guy needs you more than you need him.

The problem is Europe has been living under our protective presence for so long they think they not have right to it but the right have opinions about how we run our country. How many Europeans would welcome the US taking a keen interest in the internal affairs and not only expressing those opinions but believing they should be given weight?

You right that Europe's reaction is to be expected but so is a backlash to that opinion.

Even now, most people recognize that the President of the US is not the same as all Americans. The United States and Europe both need each other. The US is not the only "super power". Legolas is right that the world right now is multipolar. Hell, the US is even't the biggest emitter of CO2 anymore.

As for the rest of your statements - yes, many of the European nations of NATO have not been meeting their required defense spending of 2% of GDP. And every single person has a right to their opinion. Just as we have a right to our opinion about Macron, Merkel, May, Michel, etc. We are allies and we all live in this world together and want what we, subjectively, think is best for the world. No European thinks their opinion should be given weight in the running of the US. But they can express astonishment, dissatisfaction, etc. Until recently, the US was the Leader of the Free World. Though I would say now that title has passed onto Merkel. At least for now.
