I say this not because he, like the popes before him, in his arrogance and presumption has forsaken his rightful place as primus inter pares among the leaders of the Church and usurped the authority that can only belong to duly assembled Ecumenical Councils.

Except for that bullshit.
I say this not even because he has espoused heretical opinions in the past, most notably flirting with the anti-Christian doctrine of Liberation Theology. Now he seeks to alter the very words of Christ Himself.

Absolutely everything about him has always smacked of arrogance to me, combined with very little in the way of insight or legitimate command of theology to justify his positions or differences with tradition. He's unfortunately not the first person I have encountered with that nonsensical issue with the wording, but the point remains that they are the words of Christ Himself, as He directed us to pray. Our Lord was led into the wilderness by the Holy Ghost to be tempted, so it's not like God doesn't do that, either.
