I think running in the cold is worse than running in the heat but I have never run that sort of distance, never did much more than five miles. Knees and ankles are in such bad shape now that running in either is no longer an option.

If it's above 40, it's shorts and short sleeves, above 60 a sleeveless shirt because of the body heat generated. If the air temp is above 75, I risk heat stroke after 10 miles. At least trails are more shaded and softer for the ankles (never really have had knee issues) and achilles, except for the root-filled ones. Those do hurt.
