View original postI know most of you probably have, but wow! What grotesque waste! I mean, I know the heat there is unlivable; why build a city in a desert?!
The better question would be, how come a small desert peninsula like that with a couple of fishing port towns can become an independent country that punches so far above its weight in global affairs. To which the obvious answer is: oil and gas, and previously pearl fishing.
But anyway, yeah, the sports infrastructure and the way they've been gaining the right to host major global sporting events is pretty crazy. And pretty disgusting, when you also read about the way they're treating the immigrant workers building those stadiums...
Have y'all seen this? Qatar is air conditioning their open-air markets and stadiums.

Right, but... surely an enclosed stadium would be more efficient. *NM*

That may simply be because earthquakes are less frequent than hurricanes, especially now *NM*

They're less frequent, but we know where they're going to happen.

That means we need to abandon places where millions of people live. Just in the US.
