Tropical cyclones affect more humans than blizzards, in terms of inhabitable areas on the planet.

Yes. I don't suppose you are arguing, therefore, that living in these areas is a wise decision. Many of these people have no choice in the matter.

View original postQuite likely by an order of magnitude. Moving away from hurricane vulnerable areas would displace millions.

The point is that natural disasters happen everywhere, and that while there's a discussion to be had about the wisdom of New Orleans continuing to exist, nobody runs out screaming "I told you so" when a building collapses in San Diego due to an earthquake. The complaint is focused only on the Southeastern United States.

Many many of the people on the Gulf Coast and southern Atlantic Coast made a choice to move into a hurricane zone. Collectively, we are actively moving trillions in housing and infrastructure into a region that is widely claimed to be in increased danger due to the effects of Global warming. I think there's a good argument to be made that we should not be doing that, and a further argument to be made that the people who choose to do so should bear the brunt of the consequences.

Hollywood has the best moral compass, because it has compassion.
