Now that it has been cancelled, there is no more C__s Day. We won't even say the name. Never mind that there has been a recent backlash with some disputing the narrative about how horrible C__s supposedly was.
He was a white exploiter and that's all that matters, amirite?
Speaking of the day formerly known as C_s Day, does anybody know why President Harrison had it declared a national holiday? How many know about the 1891 New Orleans lynching of 11 Sicilians that was the single largest lynching in history and one that was lauded in an editorial in the New York Times? How many are aware that Harrison made October 12th a national holiday to try and mollify not only outraged Italian-Americans, but also Italy who withdrew their ambassador to protest the lynchings?
Here's a quote from the NYT editorial:
"These sneaking and cowardly Sicilians, the descendants of bandits and assassins, who have transported to this country the lawless passions, the cut-throat practices, and the oath-bound societies of their native country, are to us a pest without mitigation. Our own rattlesnakes are as good citizens as they...Lynch law was the only course open to the people of New Orleans."
So since C_s has been cancelled, maybe we Italians can be thrown another bone? Maybe another national holiday? Can't be Amerigo Vespucci if all "explorers" are now reclassified as invaders. Anyone from Italy okay for the woke crowd?
How long before we cancel Thanksgiving?
