  1. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

As you wrote, a lot can change in a decade or so. If you told me in 2009 that in 2020 I would still be working and would have been alone for almost 4 years, I never would have believed it. Make your plans but try to envision what could go wrong and prepare for it. Plan A is great but it never hurts to have a B and a C as well.

  1. Pick something you love to do.

Even if it is the most noble cause ever, if it involves stuff you don't enjoy doing, it will be difficult to sustain. Whereas if you love what you're doing, you will look forward to each day.
