Viral load probably explains how bad the symptoms are, but the very long term symptoms some people show are almost certainly related to genetics.

We're still finding out so much about this disease. In one sense, the amount of scientific output is amazing. In another sense, it's barely enough to keep us afload. I don't want to imagine what the hospitalization, ICU utilization and mortality numbers would be without the discoveries on steroids helping with late stage inflammation.
