For me at least, team meetings haven't changed due to COVID. I'm part of a global team with members in Europe, South Africa, India and Central and South America. So our meetings have always been virtual. Rather, it's the format changes that often cause one to long for a true global extermination event.
For example, the new format for our full team meeting tomorrow, which to start out, is scheduled for 7 am my time to accommodate as many people as possible. Here is what our director has planned:
Each team to nominate a "hero" of the month, connected to something that the team has achieved in that month and explain why.
Each team member to think about something that is keeping you awake and put it in a slide to describe the problem statement.
3 of these will be selected and discussed for solutions in breakout groups.
First, my hero of the month is sausage and peppers with marinara sauce and parmesan cheese. There is very little I find heroic about logistics best practice. We aren't shipping internal organs for life saving transplants.
Second, NOTHING about work keeps me awake at night. Absolutely. Nothing. Acid reflux keeps me awake. Insomnia keeps me awake. Worrying about some problem at work does not. Again, there will be no loss of life if the projects I'm working on do not deliver everything promised (and they never do). Deep dives in breakout groups into concerns I care little or nothing about? Yes, sign me up for that!
Losing two hours of my life to this sort of meaningless bullshit becomes more distasteful with the passing of each day.
