To be clear I didn't say it should be eliminated entirely, but as for what would happen if it was... Legolas Send a noteboard - 08/07/2024 10:50:57 PM

View original postWhen that direction is to thwart the will of cities like Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, LA, Chicago, and New York, I'm all for it. When those being disenfranchised are the leftists who think crimes against property should be de-emphasized and those who try to defend their property are liable for arrest for assault, I say good! If those being left behind are these cities where illegals are given up to $1,500 dollars per month while American citizens get zilch, then fuck 'em.

View original postEliminating the Electoral College would mean the candidates that pander to the far left would always win. If that is going to happen, let it happen after I'm dead and gone.

No, it wouldn't - if you look at voters on a simple left to right spectrum, obviously an oversimplification but it'll do for now, the winner of a popular vote presidential election would be whichever candidate could capture the vote of the most centrist voter in the country, the person who had precisely as many voters to his/her right as to his/her left. A far left candidate would definitely not be able to do that, nor one that was too far right.

Among current prominent politicians, more likely winners would be people like Joe Manchin, Nikki Haley, Larry Hogan, Susan Collins, probably a bunch of governors - centrists and moderates.
