Sometimes when you have a clearance, you know things that others don't, and in a public debate, you can 'know' the other side is wrong, but you can't correct them. You can't bring the information you know to bear because it's secret. You can't prove your points. You lose the argument, even if you're right.

Tom loses the argument, here. Maybe one day private facts become public and he is vindicated, but for now, he loses.
If you were to say to me, you are wrong but I can't tell you why because doing so would violate a binding NDA, why would I then come back with, then I have no reason to believe you? Sure you could be lying, but why? To impress me? To pump yourself up? Because you're a chronic bullshitter? Again, why would I assume that?
IMHO, a logical response is, I understand the position you're in and accept you have knowledge you are unable to share.
