I'd assume it's standard the silence = death metaphor (e.g. "The rest is silence") in that the universe is dying because of the giant explosion, but it's an interesting counterpoint to the fact that we generally expect explosions to be LOUD. But then there's no sound in space, is there? Now I'm just rambling.
