I guess I'll just give the others a pass, accept that Indiana Jones isn't for me, and move on to other classics that I haven't seen yet, and that hopefully I'll find more deserving. Though somehow I doubt too many will be from the '80s, true. I do love Breakfast Club, and some others from that decade I'm sure, but I can't think of many.
In some cases in which I showed 80s-born girlfriends of mine those great movies of that decade they didn't see around their release, they didn't really "get" a couple of them, mostly the comedies. Maybe it's one of the "you had to be there" cases.
It's absolutely stunning for me how someone can not feel like a little boy adventuring through a world of wonders when watching Raiders. It has an atmosphere later films of similar themes, maybe even better effects, like The Mummy, never achieved.
It's that warm fuzzy feeling inside that I get from every single Spielberg film made between 1975 and 1984. Someone saying those are not good films for me is akin to someone claiming the sun doesn't hurt your eyes when you look into it.

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.

This one might get some discussion going... we can hope. So I just watched Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Obviously I was always going to miss out on the nostalgia factor. But even so.

Probably the difference between being a great example of the genre and pioneering it. *NM*

I love the Mummy, but one reason why you shouldn't compare the two movies

The latter is debatable, actually. As for the former: yeah, right. *NM*

It's just an illustration of how things can be more than the sum of their parts.
