I'd really like to see some discussion with Lucas being challenged beetnemesis Send a noteboard - 28/02/2012 08:05:16 PM

Not that Lucas wasn't challenged creatively by his collaborators. He was, and he wanted to. But he had the last word on everything. Those "exec" that could force him to change this or that simply didn't exist.


I think it'd make for an interesting discussion. The interesting thing about Star Wars, and something that makes it almost wholly unique, it that it's simultaneously the work of a sole, dictatorial author (Lucas) and the work of dozens of other experienced authors.

Then add in the fact that there are tons of diehard fans who have seen every movie, read every book written complex dissertations on minutia most people haven't even HEARD about...

So you get stuff like Lucas saying, "No, Star Wars is this." And then you get an officially licensed book series that says, well, it's more like this. Then you get a video game like KOTOR 2 which has its own philosophical take on it.

And you can say, well George Lucas is the creator, Star Wars is whatever he says it is. But then you can take someone who's written a dozen Star Wars books, knows the entire canon, has personally produced as much Star Wars lore as Lucas himself...

I just think it would be an interesting discussion to watch.
