There are degrees of victory for Shai'tan. Preventing him from breaking free and defeating him are not the same thing.
See, if Rand dies, then there is nothing stopping Shai'tan from destroying the world. But that doesn't necessarily mean that he is freed - there are infinite worlds, as seen through the Portal Stones. And the Shai'tan paradox goes that if he breaks free in one, he breaks free in all, but if he is free in one, he is free in all.
We've seen, again through the Portal Stone journey, countless number of realities in which Rand dies. By your reasoning, this would mean Shai'tan is already free, but that is quite obviously not the case.
I imagine that in order to be freed by killing Rand, Shai'tan would have to kill him in every world. With infinite worlds, fat chance of that happening. Alternatively, there could be one true world for which all others are replicas, but there's no evidence of that, and no reason to believe so.
So, Shai'tan can't just free himself by killing Rand. What is one world destroyed to him?

The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.

Exactly. The Dark One just needs to get free. Then he can break the Pattern at his leisure...

Sure. That's for RAND to win. For the Dark One to win, it is as simple as just killing Rand...
