I think Rand using the TP was an unpredictable side-effect of his balefire link to Moridin and thus something the DO, as the uber-control freak - certainly wouldn't want. Using the TP once doesn't make you addicted. In the end, the TP usage just allowed that Rand could free himself before Min's death and instead kill Semirhage. Without using the TP, the Shadow had most likely won. But we will see!


Yeah, this is one major problem with the theory that the DO wanted Rand corrupted. However it is possible that for some reason the DO wants Rand corrupted and spreading destruction around more than he does Rand dead or prisoner.

We have seen this before in the actions of Moridin who actually wants Rand alive. If the DO disagreed with Moridin here, he would certainly have overruled Moridin and ordered the Forsaken to hunt Rand down, but the no-kill rule is still in effect. That suggests that for some reason the DO wants Rand alive, and possibly even free. I am not really sure why this would be so, but I guess we will eventually find out.

I will repeat however that BS has said that there will be more consequences for Rand's TP use, so it is possible that we will find out that Rand using the TP was more harmfull to the light than being captured would have been, somehow.
